Piercing Aftercare & Healing

So, you got a new piercing. You're excited! You want to show it off, change it out, and completely embrace your new look. We get it!!! But not so fast! 🛑

By not waiting to change out your jewelry, you can risk sensitivity, and infection. The minimum waiting time to change out your jewelry from your initial piercing is 3 months. However, it is recommended that you wait 6-12 months so that your piercing is 100% healed. I know, I know. It sounds like forever but trust me, it is worth the wait. Changing your jewelry any sooner than this can prolong the healing process and cause severe infections. So don't risk it!!! So what should you be doing in the meantime while your piercing is healing?

  1. Do not touch or play with your new and healing piercing!

  2. Soak your piercing in sea salt for 10-20 minutes per day. This will keep your piercing clean and help decrease infection risk.

  3. Gentle soap and water can be used in addition to salt soaking. HOWEVER, make sure the soap you re using is fragrance free and doesn't contain irritating ingredients. Dial unscented soap is a safe bet.

  4. Be patient! Some piercings take longer to heal than others depending on your body. It is well worth the wait and care to avoid infection.

If you follow these important steps, you should be on your way to a healed, pain free piercing that you can change jewelry with anytime you please. Stay consistent and enjoy your piercing!!!
